HISTORY

Sawmill

Lumber Ishii, orignally named Ishii Mokuzai, is a family-owned lumber yard that has been in continuous operation since its founding in 1913. In the early years, logs were transported by ship from all over Japan through the Akashi Strait and were offloaded at the mouth of the the Furushiro River that passes through the current Funage-cho in Akashi City. From there, the logs were transported a short distance over land where they were sawn and processed for construction and shipbuilding. Since 1948, the lumber yard has existed alongside National Highway No. 2 in Suzuricho, and has increased the scale of lumber in response to demand.

Autumn Leaves

From 2021, we will minimize inventory, switch to the system of fulfilling custom orders, and continue to operate. Please feel free to contact us from specialists such as carpenters, ship carpenters, and construction shops to businessmen and homemakers. Our hope is that as many people as possible feel a connection to wood from projects ranging from home renovation to woodworking hobbies with their children.
